If there is one image that sums up Tokyo's blend of old and new, it is the view of Tokyo Tower rising behind the main hall of Zojo-ji Temple. The Blue Course bus drops you right next to this spectacle.

Tokyo Tower: The Eiffel of the East

Built in 1958 and standing 333 meters tall, it is a symbol of Japan's post-war rebirth.

  • Top Deck Tour: A renovated, futuristic guided tour to the top observation deck.
  • Glass Floor: Look straight down 150 meters at the main deck. Not for the faint of heart!

Zojo-ji Temple

Just steps from the tower lies Zojo-ji, the family temple of the Tokugawa Shoguns.

  • Sangedatsumon Gate: The massive wooden front gate is the oldest wooden structure in Tokyo (1622), surviving fires, earthquakes, and WWII.
  • Jizo Statues: In the garden, you will see rows of small stone statues clothed in red bonnets and holding pinwheels. These are guardians of children, a touching and photogenic sight.

Shiba Park

Surrounding the temple and tower is Shiba Park. It’s a great spot for a picnic.

  • The Prince Park Tower: Wander towards the garden of this hotel for some of the best unobstructed angles of the tower.

Why Hop Off?

The bus drives by, but you can’t get the classic "Temple + Tower" photo without walking into the temple grounds. It’s a quick 45-minute stop that captures the essence of the city.
