Sky Bus driving past colorful billboards in Akihabara

Akihabara (or "Akiba") is a sensory overload of colorful billboards, anime songs blasting from shops, and multi-story arcades. The bus drives right down the main Chuo-dori street, which is lined with major electronics retailers.

What is Akihabara?

Originally a black market for radio parts post-WWII (hence "Electric Town"), it evolved into the center of computer culture and later, anime/manga/gaming culture.

Key Spots to Visit

1. Radio Kaikan

Right next to the station, this tower is filled with card shops, figure stores, and hobby goods. A great one-stop-shop.

2. Super Potato

Travel back in time at this legendary retro game store. Find Gameboys, Famicoms, and games from your childhood.

3. Maid Cafes

You will see maids handing out flyers on the street. Visiting a maid cafe is a uniquely Japanese "moe" experience. It’s not just about coffee; it’s about the chanting, the games, and the performance.

4. Yodobashi Camera

A massive electronics department store. The stationery and toy sections are incredible.

On Sunday: Pedestrian Zone

Like Ginza, Akihabara closes its main street to cars on Sunday afternoons. It becomes a cosplayer and photographer haven.

Bus View

Even if you don't realize it, looking at the facades of the buildings is a tour in itself—massive anime characters spanning 10 floors are a common sight here!
